Double page spread final text- luke
Q:
How does it feel to be back on the scene, and did you have trouble
getting back into the swing of things?
A:
Its good, we've been gone for so long. Its unreal how natural these
thing feel, as soon as we stepped back onto the stage we felt as if
we were home. We have had countless rehersals to make sure that we
are still able to play our music, work together as a team and just be
able to enjoy our whilst doing the things we love.
Q:What
you started to realise on the first album with tracks like
‘Impossible’, you seemed to add to your armoury for the second
with a more expansive sound…
A:Yeah,
definitely; that song in particular really started to evolve when we
were playing it live and our whole live show has evolved into a much
bigger thing than when we first started, so when it came to writing
the songs, you do sort of write things that you’re going to take on
the road with you – they are your weapons of choice really. So with
a mixture of what happened last time, and how we’d changed as a
band, it all influenced what we wanted it to sound like. I’m
sure it’ll change again, but right now, that’s where we’re at.
Q:
I did read that you might have recorded, or just spent a bit of time
up in a recording studio in Norfolk, but that it wasn’t the most
prolific time for you?
A:Yeah,
we spent some cold months up in Norfolk and looking back, we did do
all the songs on the record up there, but we just felt like we came
out of it empty-handed, when in fact we hadn’t. We’d started all
the songs, but hadn’t finished anything, so we were all a bit glum!
Looking back, all the songs were started there, but they were all in
some crazy order, and like, ten minutes long!
Q:
Are you returning with a new vibe, if so how do you think your fans
will react?
A:
No we want to stick with the same vibe as we left with, we spent ages
developing a unique sound for our band, as-well as this we have
gathered many fans over the years and we are not ready to let them
go, it would just ruin the status and image of the band. And we
definitely do not want that to happen.
Q:Would
you say the fame has changed your look on life?
A:
Yeah definitely, before the band we all were just simpletons roaming
the streets looking for something to come along and keep us busy, we
all took things for granted and expecting every thing to be handed to
us. But now we know that working towards something is much more
rewarding than just sitting back and being spoon-fed. So yeah you
could say the fame has changed our outlook on life, but for the
better.
Q:
Rumor is that your arranging a charity event at the O2 arena next
year.
A:
Well you have heard correctly, Jamie came up with the idea of giving
something back to those who helped us throughout the process of being
who we are today, if it wasn't for the Clapton Twelve Advice group
the we wouldn't be able to be a group due to jamie's past activities.
JAMIE:
Yeah they helped me through the rough stages of my life where I
depended on every one to bail be out of situations, I just want to be
able to say that im giving back what they gave to me.
Q:
Some people have compared you to The Beatles in the sense of
popularity, How do you feel abou this?
A:
Whoever's been saying this they're stupid and obviously dont
understand music, The Beatles are amazing and are our idols, it is an
complement as much as an insult to compare us to the Beatles, our
fans may think that we are as good and popular as them but we do not
think we are up to there legendary standard just yet, but hopefully
in the future who knows.
Q:When
your not recording in the studio, what do you do in your spare time?
A:
We just do what other general teenagers do really, we just hang out
and have a laugh, dont get me wrong we are always on the job really,
we constantly jam and come up with new ideas for songs, but its nice
to just relax with a beer and a couple of mates over a game of FIFA.
We like to think we are like any other teenager just hanging out as
friends do.
Q:
And what can we, as an audience, bring to the table for you?
A:
Oh, just show up. I think every show is different, but it’ll be
like a bit of a home show really, because all the songs were started
up there and it’ll bring a lot of memories. Bringing the songs
back, all ready and finished off and playing in that venue, I think
it’s gonna be a special night.

Final Masthead- Luke Ford
As Luke and I both thought the other masthead didn't look aesthetically pleasing on the cover of our magazine drafts we decided to adapt one of Luke's previous designs to create our final masthead. Firstly we moved the anchor from over the text to behind the text and also changed the placement to the end of the masthead. This allows you to easily read that the magazine is called Anchor. Secondly we changed the colour of the masthead and the colour of the background, we did this because the focus group said they would prefer a Red, Black and White house style. The white on black makes the masthead look more prominent and stand out more than the dark grey of the previous design. Finally we changed the font, this is because the font used in the previous design looked too professional. Our results when we posted this on my flickr page were more positive than the previous design.

When developing our final masthead we decided to design it so that the colour of the text could be changed without the masthead looking "Tacky" and Unprofessional. We also designed it so the block of colour behind the text could be removed, similar to the two Kerrang covers above.

Selection And Rejection- Luke Ford
Luke Ford
Selection
I have decided to use this photo on the front cover as a pugg, i took this photo in a local club when inelegance were doing a live show, i like this photo because of the lighting and the fact that the hands are evenly placed around the logo for the band.
This photo is going to be used again as a pug but also will be placed inside the contents page to indicated the page for the posters, i like this photo because of the faces and the emotions that are shown on the models faces, it gives of a hint seriousness as well as propelling a felling of seriousness. this photo was taken in ryans music room
I will be use-ing this photo in the DPS because this one photo has the whole band in the picture looking as if they are ready to play there show, another reason i have chosen this photo is because of the light that is pouring through the window in the back which give the photo its own natural filter. this photo was taken in the back of ryans dads van this photo is going to be used for the front cover of my magazine, this particular photo is one of my favourite best of the power behind it, it gives of a sense of anger and straining which is what the music is about. not only this but the fact that the models mouth is open which indicates that he is shouting which again is linked to the band , this photo was taken in ryans music room.
this photo will be used my contents page back ground, i like this photo because the light coming from the end of the alley which gives a nice effect to the photo.
Rejection
i was planning to use this as a puff on the contents page but then i relised that the photo itself could't been drawn into the magazine and fit well with no meaning behind the photo
This photo will not be put into the magazine because it was a shock and quick snap which went wrong because of the model was not ready for me to take the picture.

Masthead Luke Ford
By changing the "a" at the start of Anchor to a capital it makes the mast head look more presentable. The colour of this masthead can be changed depending on the house style and colour schemes used by each of us for our individual magazines, for example I intend to use a Red, Black and White colour scheme for my magazine and by changing the colour of the masthead to red it will enhance the cover as well as still being recognizable to the consumer.
Below are two Kerrang magazines which are easily recognizable which have different coloured mastheads.

The JPEG of an anchor that has been included could be used inside the magazine, similar to how "Q" use there logo. For example we could judge new albums or singles using mini anchors out of 5, or we could give albums that we find good an anchor and give bad albums a broken anchor or something similar, such as a sinking ship.

Institutions and Audiences - Luke Ford
Since
our magazine is similar in content and aesthetics to magazines such
as Kerrang and Q I decided to research which institution publishes
them.
I
discovered that the least appropriate publishing company would be
Bauer Media. Bauer Media publish many magazines including FHM, RIDE
and Empire. The main reason why we wouldn't use Bauer is because they
already publish magazines which are very similar to our magazine. We
need to find a magazine publisher that doesn't have any pop
punk/indie rock magazines. The best publisher I could find would be
Future, this is because they have no music magazines that are
focussed on this genre of music. They have many purely musical based
magazines such as Total Guitar and classic rock but none that would
be appropriate to our target market. Future are quite a large
publishing company which publish a large variety of magazines such as
cycling magazines, craft magazines and gaming magazines. This gives
us the added advantage that they already have a large quantity of
people who buy magazines published by them.
On future publishings website it is stated that they attract over 50 million Unique visitors online per month. Most magazines also have websites to go with their brand and if we created a magazine and had it included on futures page we would be able to enhance our amount of readers dependant on their choice of magazine genre.

The majority of the people who filled
in our questionnaire were between the ages of 16 and 18, which is
convenient as our target audience is of this age, so we received
feedback from ages that we are aiming our magazine at, which means
our data collected would be relevant to our magazine.
Even though we were planning on calling
our magazine “pyramid”, from the feedback we received, we are now
more likely to give our magazine the name of “anchor” as that was
the most popular choice from the questionnaire, so therefore if we
decide to give our magazine the name “anchor” it may be more
popular than if we called our magazine any of the other suggestions,
we could also create a slogan linked to our magazine and the name,
like Kerrang's slogan is “where life is loud”.
Kerrang and NME are the two magazines
most bought by the participants of our questionnaire, so as we've
already looked at and analysed some Kerrang and NME magazines we have
an idea of the kind of layouts they use in articles, and kind of
language they use within the articles, we are also aware of the
contents of these magazines and the music they concentrate on. These
magazines the same type of music we are going to concentrate on in
our magazine.
The majority of people asked would
prefer the magazine to be monthly, this would mean that we may sell
more of our magazines as people would only have to pay for it once a
month rather than weekly, which could become quite expensive for
people, so having a monthly magazine could result in having more
customers buying it regularly or even subscribe to our magazine
instead of just purchasing it every now and then, which people may be
more likely to do with a weekly magazine, also, this could mean we
would be able to spend more producing them as they would only need to
be printed monthly rather than a new issue every week.
Our magazine would hopefully be priced
between £1-£5, as not many people seem to be willing to pay more
than £5, this means that we would have to try and produce our
magazines cheaply enough, to sell at £5 or less, but them still be
of good quality, as we probably wouldn't sell enough if it was priced
over £5.
People seem to want to receive
freebies, but the choice of what people want is quite spread out
between posters, CD’s and downloads, to accommodate for the wants
of all 3 of these we could possibly include different freebies in
different issues, such as in one issue we could include a free
download and in another, free posters. This would also mean that we
have a variety of things to include with our magazine, rather than
including the same thing in every issue, which readers may get bored
of.
