Double page spread and Contents analysis - Luke Ford

I have taken this double page spread article from kerrang, the colours used in this particular article are mainly dark and bleak i think the reason for this is because it would go with the title, because it makes the audience feel as if it is a old photo due to the colours. the colour scheme for the article is white and rd on black which allows the text to stand out form the page and is easy to read as well as this they have written the title in a different font and a different size which shows that it is important to the article, the title represents that people are eager to see the band form again this is represented with the large ''CANT WAIT'', the photo is the main focus point of the article and it is located on the third, the photo itself shows a sense of fun and happiness which could indicate that people are happy to see them come back and they are looking forward to starting back up. theres is alot of text in tis article which indicates that the people who purchase the magazine are interested in the detail when it comes to knowing the story instead of those who just want the outline in a form of snip its.

this particular double page spread article was taken for the music magazine NME. the coulors used in this article are quite feminine which may mean that they are focusing on female there female fans. Not only this but the text that they have used for the title is very feminine and articulate. The photo stands out and pops out of the page not only this but the photo is also giving of a sense of reunion and fun. The text of the article is st in a form of an interview  which is good because when the consumers read the text they feels as if they are actually talking to the persons of point instead of just being told about them.

this contents page was taken form a kerrang magazine, this particular contents page is both formal and informal at the same time, this is because there is a big photo at the top which gives of a sense of being informal but also there the formal side where there is a box of text written by one of the editors. They have used a range of flashes to draw the readers eyes towards the more interesting article's. They have also stuck to the house style from the outside of the magazine and placed it inside. The contents is set out in an easy to read manner which doesn't
people shy away form reading all of the text.

This contents page was taken from the magazine Q which is a much more formal styled magazine compared to Kerrang. they have used a range of flashes and pictures to draw the readers eye toward articles. Not only this but Q have also stuck to the house style throughout  the contents page. The main thing different about this particular contents page form Kerrangs is that they have only put the big stories and important articles in the contents. The forecast of text to picture ratio is more in the way of the pictures which makes it easy for the readers to stay focused on the text due to the small and amount and the fact that its to the point.

Double Page Spread and Contents Page Analysis- Luke

This double page spread comes from Kerrang
Magazine. the first thing that will catch the audiences attention is the fact that one half of the double page spread is completely taken up by the main image. The title of the article is a pulled quote from the actual article, like most Kerrang articles. The reason this is so is so the reader in this instance will want to know why the Haley Williams got those scars. The secondary image is quite small but shows a shot of the whole band opposed to just the lead singer. The font used is very formal and so is the language included. The main article in this piece is an interview with the artist as opposed to piece primarily about the artist. The model in this double page spread looks very happy and cheery, this links with the title which says "Its okay to have scars and to show them" showing that the model in the photo does have flaws and she isn't afraid to have them included in this magazine. This pulled quote also gives us a brief insight of what is included inside the article, it makes the reader think "I wonder what her flaws are?" this makes the reader want to read the magazine and furthermore buy the whole magazine. This magazine is based for an age range of around 14-25 so the language used is very colloquial, this gives the reader a chance to connect with the musician and article.

This contents page comes from NME magazine. The colour scheme of the contents page matches the house style of the rest of the magazine. The contents page includes a short story in the centre of the page that links to the cover of this specific magazine. Down the right hand side the articles are listed under 5 categories titled News, which includes the most important stories about bands, Radar, which is specified to new and upcoming bands. Reviews, which review albums. Live, which reviews live shows and gives details about upcoming shows, Features which has interviews with artists. Down the left hand side is a complete list of each band that is included in the magazine, this is a clever idea as if the consumer buys the magazine to read about a specific band they can find which page, or pages they are on with ease. at the bottom of the page is a section which gives information on how to subscribe to the magazine, including price and a link to the magazines web page.

Existing product research - Luke Ford

The first thing that drew me to picture was the bold and bright headline, the fact that it is covering the band (blink-182) who are wearing dark colours makes it seem as if it is bursting out of the front cover and into my direct vision not only this but they are grouped together posing in a friendly manner which helps to link with the headline. The main colours that are used on the cover are red, black as-well as some blue which promotes the incentives. The text on the cover is very limited, which tells me that the magazine is mainly prioritised on the one article located in the centre left two thirds. There are a variety of pugs and puffs located around the magazine indicating free posters and pictures to go along with the incentive. there are also a range of strap lines, banners and flash's. The cover photo directly links to the targeted reader and is not confusing if you are not familiar with the magazine it's self. The magazine uses the same house style throughout their issues so that they do not confuse customers, they are so confident that consumers will be able to pick out their magazine they have covered apart of the masthead which shows that they are comfortable enough to do so unlike other brands of magazines such as ''Q''.

The magazine cover for Q features a wide range of features that KERRANG are also using. The first thing that my eye was drawn to when i saw this magazine were the pair of reflective sunglasses that the model (Liam Gallagher) is wearing, inside the glasses are the other band members, which could be linked to the cover story ''Liam's beady eye kick off'' the picture could symbolise what thoughts are going through his head about the band.  The colour scheme that the magazine is using is a very basic red on white which allows images and certain text to stand out. there are a variety of pugs, puffs flash's and lead story's spread across the page which indicate that the magazine is full of stories unlike the one above.  There is a barcode in the bottom right corner which is a convectional position which is used across most magazines. The cover also uses different sizes of font to show which story is most important, as-well as using different colours to make others stand out from the rest.

Preliminary Front Cover and contents page - Luke Ford

Preliminary Task and photo shoot evaluation - Luke Ford

Media studies

three worst photographs.

This was one of my worst photographs tat I had to take. The reason for which is the fact that for a start the camera is on a slant, so I havent got a nice and straight picture which will make it harder for me when it comes to editing this particular photo for my magazine cover. Another issue is the grainy-ness of the photo I wasn't standing completely still when this photo was taking so it has made the picture is of bad quality.

Again this photograph was take on a slant which will make issues for when I have to edit it. That was the main factor of why I did not choose this particular photo. Another reason why I didn't choose this particular photo is because I again left to much room at the sides which is dictracting, I do not want to crop the photo and make the aspect ratio all out of proportion, I have had to adapt to make sure that the next set of photos are not like this one where there I s to much empty space on the sides.

This photo was a disaster there is to much open wall in the back ground which makes the photo really boring, not only this but the photo was also taken in landscape which is not going to work when I come to making a front cover out of this photo, again I do not want to crop my photos. As well these issues there is one main issue that I had come across and that is that my modle was not ready and I shows in the final picture, the lighting on this photo is ok apart from a mass of light appearing on the left of the photograph.

Three best photos

this was one of my best photograph's, I particularly like this one due to being able to see the while piece of art in the back ground. The only things wrong with this photo are hat the colours of the art are clashing with the models shirt colours and it draws you eye toward the art not the modle him self, the other reason is that there is a dark area above the modle and the art piece which shouldn't be there.

Again this was one of my best photographs, but It just is not good enough for a front cover there are reasons why I have decided that this one will not be my front cover, because you can not see the top of the art piece, ad on the others sides of the art there is boarders, this stops me from being able to put a title on the magazine because there is to many colour going on at the top which could obstruct the colour of text that I wish to use.

This photograph came out just the way that I wanted it to and I will be using this particular one for my front cover, there is plenty of room for a title as well as text around the modle and the art piece, I think that the art in the back ground makes the photo look nice as well as not drawing to much attention away from the model himself. The folder is visible enough to show that it would be and students magazine which will consist of educational queries. Another reason why I am choosing this photo is because the lighting is perfect there Is no dark patches that will be exposed on the final product.

evaluation

i felt as if my photo shoot went really well, the model turned up on time with the right props and the right attitude towards the shoot itself he was very cooperative when i came to having to try out many different poses and statures. the only main issue that i came across when i was doing the photo shoot was the fact that i did not know how to use the camera to its full potential which had affected the shoot by taking up time and taking its toll on the model. In the future i will have to make sure that i know the camera that i am using so that i can easily do the task which was set, another thing that i must improve on was the range of angle's that i use so that i will have a wider range of shots and to set what one works best. In conclusion i  am fairly happy with the way that the shoot went, after the minor issues it went on very smoothly.
