Double Page Spread and Contents Page Analysis- Luke

This double page spread comes from Kerrang
Magazine. the first thing that will catch the audiences attention is the fact that one half of the double page spread is completely taken up by the main image. The title of the article is a pulled quote from the actual article, like most Kerrang articles. The reason this is so is so the reader in this instance will want to know why the Haley Williams got those scars. The secondary image is quite small but shows a shot of the whole band opposed to just the lead singer. The font used is very formal and so is the language included. The main article in this piece is an interview with the artist as opposed to piece primarily about the artist. The model in this double page spread looks very happy and cheery, this links with the title which says "Its okay to have scars and to show them" showing that the model in the photo does have flaws and she isn't afraid to have them included in this magazine. This pulled quote also gives us a brief insight of what is included inside the article, it makes the reader think "I wonder what her flaws are?" this makes the reader want to read the magazine and furthermore buy the whole magazine. This magazine is based for an age range of around 14-25 so the language used is very colloquial, this gives the reader a chance to connect with the musician and article.

This contents page comes from NME magazine. The colour scheme of the contents page matches the house style of the rest of the magazine. The contents page includes a short story in the centre of the page that links to the cover of this specific magazine. Down the right hand side the articles are listed under 5 categories titled News, which includes the most important stories about bands, Radar, which is specified to new and upcoming bands. Reviews, which review albums. Live, which reviews live shows and gives details about upcoming shows, Features which has interviews with artists. Down the left hand side is a complete list of each band that is included in the magazine, this is a clever idea as if the consumer buys the magazine to read about a specific band they can find which page, or pages they are on with ease. at the bottom of the page is a section which gives information on how to subscribe to the magazine, including price and a link to the magazines web page.

  1. I would like to see much more language analysis and work on representations especially for the DPS analysis. This focuses on codes and conventions and media terminology is good.
