Existing product research - Luke Ford

The first thing that drew me to picture was the bold and bright headline, the fact that it is covering the band (blink-182) who are wearing dark colours makes it seem as if it is bursting out of the front cover and into my direct vision not only this but they are grouped together posing in a friendly manner which helps to link with the headline. The main colours that are used on the cover are red, black as-well as some blue which promotes the incentives. The text on the cover is very limited, which tells me that the magazine is mainly prioritised on the one article located in the centre left two thirds. There are a variety of pugs and puffs located around the magazine indicating free posters and pictures to go along with the incentive. there are also a range of strap lines, banners and flash's. The cover photo directly links to the targeted reader and is not confusing if you are not familiar with the magazine it's self. The magazine uses the same house style throughout their issues so that they do not confuse customers, they are so confident that consumers will be able to pick out their magazine they have covered apart of the masthead which shows that they are comfortable enough to do so unlike other brands of magazines such as ''Q''.

The magazine cover for Q features a wide range of features that KERRANG are also using. The first thing that my eye was drawn to when i saw this magazine were the pair of reflective sunglasses that the model (Liam Gallagher) is wearing, inside the glasses are the other band members, which could be linked to the cover story ''Liam's beady eye kick off'' the picture could symbolise what thoughts are going through his head about the band.  The colour scheme that the magazine is using is a very basic red on white which allows images and certain text to stand out. there are a variety of pugs, puffs flash's and lead story's spread across the page which indicate that the magazine is full of stories unlike the one above.  There is a barcode in the bottom right corner which is a convectional position which is used across most magazines. The cover also uses different sizes of font to show which story is most important, as-well as using different colours to make others stand out from the rest.
